NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2024-25 COHORT OF THE HOLLYHOCK HUMANITIES FELLOWSHIP.

A year-long learning adventure for accomplished metro-NYC area high school social studies teachers. It includes a summer seminar and workshops with renowned historians, great PD, supportive coaching, a wonderful diverse community, as well as a $3,000 stipend! It is sponsored by the Relay Graduate School of Education. 

The Hollyhock Humanities Fellowship is currently accepting applications for the 2024-25 cohort, providing an opportunity for accomplished high school social studies teachers in the NYC area with a minimum of 3 years of teaching experience. The Fellowship aims to enrich educators with insights into the Long Reconstruction: The African-American Experience 1865-1965 through lectures by esteemed historians, including Dr. Eric Foner, Dr. Terry Anne Scott, and Dr. Yohuru Williams.

Participants will have the chance to explore renowned NYC cultural institutions, such as the NY Historical Society, The Museum of Modern Art, The Museum of the City of NY, and the Tenement Museum. The program includes a Summer Seminar from July 15 to July 26, 2024, and four Saturday sessions during the 2024-2025 school year (October 19, 2024, December 7, 2024, March 1, 2025, May 17, 2025).

The curriculum, designed to reinvigorate teaching passion, covers professional development in using documents for close reading, discourse, and developing historical thinking. Led by experienced educators like Jamey Verrilli, Dr. Jon Bassett, and Dr. Gary Shiffman, the sessions include year-long, supportive individualized coaching.

Hollyhock Humanities Fellows will receive a $3000 stipend, 75 CTLE credits, and a chance for 4 A+/P credits. The program fosters a sense of community, connecting diverse social studies teachers across the NYC area.
