JAPANESE GOVERNMENT (MEXT) SCHOLARSHIPS 2024 FOR TEACHER TRAINING STUDENTS (FULLY FUNDED TO JAPAN).

Application Deadline: Varying by Country

Applications are now open for the 2024 Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarships.

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) in Japan extends scholarships to international educators interested in researching school education at designated Japanese universities. These scholarships fall under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program, specifically for Teacher Training Students.

Requirements:

MEXT considers applications from international students aiming to study in Japan who meet the following qualifications and conditions. The objective is to cultivate individuals who will serve as bridges of friendship between their home country and Japan, contributing to the development of both nations and the broader global community.

  • Nationality: Applicants must hold the nationality of a country with diplomatic relations with Japan.
  • Age: Generally, applicants must be born on or after April 2, 1989. Exceptions may be granted in cases where MEXT determines that the applicant couldn’t apply within the eligible age limit due to circumstances like military service obligation or loss of educational opportunities due to war disturbances.
  • Academic and Career Background: Applicants should be graduates of universities or teacher training schools, having worked as teachers at primary/secondary educational institutions or teacher training schools (excluding universities) in their home countries for a total period of five years or more as of October 1, 2024.
  • Japanese Language Ability: Applicants must be open to learning Japanese and have an interest in Japan. They should be willing to deepen their understanding of Japan upon arrival and possess the ability to conduct research and adapt to life in Japan.
  • Health: Applicants must submit a health certificate in the prescribed format, signed by a physician, affirming that the applicant has no physical or mental conditions hindering their study in Japan.

Scholarship Period:

The scholarship period spans the necessary duration for the completion of the accepting university’s training course, falling between October 2024 (or the course’s starting month) and March 2026. The scholarship period begins in October 2024, even if applicants arrive in Japan in September 2024. Extension of the scholarship period is not allowed.

Scholarship Benefits:

  • Allowance: Upon arrival in Japan, a monthly stipend of 143,000 yen will be provided. A supplemental regional allowance of 2,000 or 3,000 yen per month may be added for grantees studying or conducting research in specially designated regions.
  • Education Fees: MEXT covers fees for entrance examinations, matriculation, and tuition at universities.
  • Travel Expenses:
    • Transportation to Japan: MEXT specifies the travel schedule and route, providing an economy-class airline ticket for grantees arriving in Japan during the fixed period.
    • Transportation from Japan: Based on the grantee’s application, MEXT will furnish an airline ticket for those completing the training course and returning to their home country by the scholarship period’s end.
