PRESIDENT BOLA TINUBU HAS DIRECTED FCT MINISTER NYESOM WIKE TO INITIATE IMMEDIATE DISTRIBUTION OF GRAINS TO RESIDENTS IN THE FCT TO EASE THEIR LIVING CONDITIONS.
Just four days following the invasion of warehouses by irate FCT residents, President Bola Tinubu has directed FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to initiate emergency measures for the distribution of grains to residents, aiming to alleviate their living conditions.
Tinubu issued this directive in a memorandum to the FCT Minister on Tuesday, urging the establishment of a strategic committee to oversee the transparent and fair distribution of grains to vulnerable Nigerians through the National Emergency Management Agency.
In response to recent incidents where some grain storage facilities were vandalized and looted by residents, the committee has less than two weeks to implement the presidential directive.
FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, announced the committee’s formation during a meeting with Area Council chairpersons and other stakeholders on Wednesday. Expressing disappointment with the area council chairpersons for not taking the invitation seriously, the minister warned against any actions that could undermine the president’s goodwill toward the territory’s residents.
The committee’s members include chairpersons of area councils, FCT Emergency Management Agency, traditional rulers, Department of State Service, the police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, faith-based organizations, National Union of Local Government Employees, Nigeria Red Cross Society, Women’s Association, Persons with Disability Group, Youth Associations, Principal of Boarding Schools, Civil Society Organizations, and the media.
