Applications are currently open for the 2024 Circular Food Systems for Rwanda Program. This initiative aims to transform Rwanda’s food systems, making them more circular and sustainable to accommodate the expected global population growth of 9.7 billion by 2050. The program focuses on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in adopting circular business models or enhancing existing practices, with tailored assistance from a network of technical providers. Additionally, efforts are directed towards creating a conducive policy environment for systemic transformation.
Requirements:
- Open to SMEs in the agri-food sector in Rwanda contributing to a circular economy.
- SMEs may operate in various stages of the food system, including agricultural inputs, production, storage, processing, packaging, or distribution.
- Priority given to horticulture, grains, aquaculture, and livestock value chains, as well as circular innovations applicable across the food system.
- Eligibility criteria include a demonstrated agri-food focus, understanding of value chain business fit, proposing new or expanded circular integration, 2+ years of operation, local registration in good standing with relevant authorities in Rwanda, technology-enabled operations, and partner/investor relationship referrals.
Benefits:

- SMEs partnered with a technical assistance provider based on specific needs or goals.
- Flexibility for SMEs to select their provider and collaborate on designing a unique circular adoption or scaling solution.
