ALLAN GRAY ORBIS FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME 2024 FOR YOUNG SOUTH AFRICANS

Applications are now open for the Allan Gray Orbis Fellowship Programme.

The Fellowship Programme seeks young achievers transitioning into university, individuals aspiring to make a significant impact not only in their lives but also in their community, city, and country. Recipients of the Fellowship receive needs-based funding for university education and access to support and development initiatives aimed at fostering an entrepreneurial mindset.

Objectives of the Allan Gray Orbis Fellowship:

  1. Choosing Entrepreneurship as a Viable Career Path:
    • Focus on cultivating entrepreneurship in Candidate Fellows.
    • By the program’s end, participants should desire to create value through responsible entrepreneurship, view entrepreneurship as a viable career path, develop the ability to turn ideas into viable opportunities, understand the value proposition of the Foundation and E2, and appreciate a culture of community and collaboration.
    • Entrepreneurial mindset development curriculum is disseminated via the AGOF Online Campus.
  2. Deepening the Understanding of Entrepreneurship:
    • Beyond financial and academic support, each candidate is assigned a Personal Development Officer for a smooth transition, an Entrepreneurial Leadership Officer to encourage entrepreneurial thinking, and an industry mentor to enhance understanding of entrepreneurial traits and concepts in the working world.

Fellowship Application for Gr.12 Learners – Requirements and Process:

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 60% in Pure Mathematics OR a minimum of 80% in Mathematical Literacy for final grade 11 results.
  • Minimum average of 70% for final Grade 11 results (excluding Life Orientation).
  • Applicant must be under the age of 21 in the year of application.
  • South African citizenship.
  • Intention to study towards a degree in Commerce, Science, Engineering, Law, Humanities, Arts & Health Science (Excluding Medicine, Veterinary Science, and Dentistry) at specified universities.

Process:

  • Submit the application form and supporting documentation online or via post before or on April 30, 2024, 17:00 SAST.
  • Successful candidates will be invited for an interview in July 2024.
  • Successful interview candidates will be invited to a selection camp in September 2024.

First-Year University Campaign:

  • Open to first-year students nominated by universities.
  • Must currently be in their 1st year of study.
  • Must have an academic average of 65% after the first semester of 2023.
  • Turning no older than 22 years in 2024.
  • Studying toward a degree in specified faculties.

Benefits:

  • Full funding for applicants with a combined annual household income of R1 million and below.
  • Needs-based funding for applicants with a combined annual household income above R1 million.
  • Various support initiatives, including speakers, seminars, workshops, experiential exercises, business incubation access, and potential funding through E Squared.
  • Mentorship, community engagement, and a well-rounded individual approach to learning.
