AFRICAN LEADERSHIP CENTER (ALC) PEACE, SECURITY & DEVELOPMENT FELLOWSHIPS 2024/2025 FOR YOUNG PROFESSIONALS (FULLY FUNDED)

Applications are now open for the 2024/2025 African Leadership Center (AlC) Peace, Security & Development Fellowships.

Established over a decade ago, the ALC has been pivotal in shaping the emerging generation of African leaders, fostering talent, and advancing African ideas and knowledge to propel the transformation of African societies. With locations in Nairobi, Kenya, and King’s College London, UK, the ALC strives to shape and influence academic, research, and policy discussions on leadership, peace, security, and development in Africa and globally.

The ALC Fellowship programs aim to produce highly skilled graduates with distinct leadership traits and capabilities, generating cutting-edge research on peace, security, and development. Participants actively engage in institutional, national, and regional networks, contributing to the training and mentorship of the next generation of African academics.

Eligibility:

  • Female citizens of African countries.
  • Holders of valid travel documents before acceptance.
  • Possess a master’s or bachelor’s degree, with additional experience in the field of peace, security, and development considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of or experience with women’s rights, gender, and development issues.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to contributing to work on peace, security, and development in Africa.
  • Exhibit the capacity to undertake research on issues related to peace, security, and development in Africa.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the core values of the program: Promoting African-led ideas and processes of change, independent thinking, integrity, pursuit of excellence, recognition of youth agency, and respect for diversity in all its forms.
  • Present a clear plan for utilizing the knowledge gained during the Fellowship upon return to their countries or organizations.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English as the entire program is conducted in English.

Funding:

  • Fully funded opportunity (excluding visa application and processing costs).
  • Funds cover tuition, subsistence in the UK and Africa, and travel expenses related to the program in both phases.
  • Accommodation in Nairobi is not provided, and fellows are advised to make necessary arrangements independently.

Fellowships for African Scholars in Peace, Security, and Development (Degree Awarding):

  • Available to young African scholars interested in research and academic careers in peace, security, and development.
  • An eighteen-month program involving rigorous academic research, writing, and policy analysis, followed by a six-month attachment to an African University, Regional Organization, or Center of Excellence in Africa for practical experience.
  • Fellows enroll in the MSc Global Leadership and Peacebuilding program at King’s College London, benefiting from tailored mentoring sessions.
  • Fellows contribute to the African Leadership Centre’s ten-year research agenda titled “Peace, Society, and the State in Africa.”
