PETROLEUM TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT FUND (PTDF) 2024/2025 OVERSEAS POSTGRADUATE (MASTERS & PHD) SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME FOR STUDY IN FRANCE, GERMANY, CHINA & MALAYSIA (FULLY FUNDED)

Applications are now open for the 2024/2025 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate (Masters & PhD) Scholarship Scheme.

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), a Federal Government agency tasked with cultivating indigenous expertise in petroleum technology for the oil and gas sector, calls for applications from qualified individuals for its Overseas MSc and PhD scholarships under the PTDF Overseas Scholarship Scheme for the 2024/2025 academic session.

This scheme aims to provide candidates with an opportunity to benefit from the diverse knowledge pool and facilities offered by esteemed institutions worldwide. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply through PTDF to specific programs at partner institutions.

Benefits:

Successful applicants will receive flight tickets, health insurance coverage, tuition and bench fee payments (where applicable), and allowances to cover accommodation and living expenses.

Selection Process, Criteria & Requirements:

PTDF scholarships are highly competitive, with only outstanding candidates selected. The top applicants from each state in each category will be invited for an interview, where a selection committee will assess applications based on the following criteria:

  1. Academic merit demonstrated by the quality of degrees, academic transcripts, and professional qualifications.
  2. Relevant publications for reference (PhD applicants only).
  3. Membership in professional bodies.
  4. Viability and relevance of the study/research plan.
  5. Relevance of previous studies to the oil and gas industry and the proposed course/research.

Requirements:

MSc:

  • Minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) or Second Class Lower (2.2) with relevant industry experience.
  • Completion of the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC).
  • Computer literacy.
  • Possession of 5 O/level credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
  • Statement of purpose (max 500 words) explaining the reason(s) for the proposed study, its industry relevance, and expected impact on national development.
  • National Identity Number (NIN) is mandatory.

PhD:

  • Completion of the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC).
  • Computer literacy.
  • Possession of 5 O/level credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
  • Minimum of Second Class Lower (2.2) in the first degree and a good post-graduate degree.
  • Research proposal relevant to the oil and gas industry (not more than five pages).
  • Letter from Vice Chancellors confirming no other scholarships (for lecturers).
  • National Identity Number (NIN) is mandatory.

Required Documents:

Applicants should scan and attach copies of the following documents to the online application forms:

  • First Degree Certificate or Statement of Result.
  • NYSC discharge certificate.
  • WAEC/GCE/SSCE/NECO results with PINs for PTDF to verify on the relevant website.
  • Recent Passport Photograph.
  • Local Government Identification Letter.
  • Master’s Degree Certificate (PhD Applicants only).
  • Evidence of membership in professional associations.

Important Notes:

  • The scholarship pertains to the 2024/2025 academic session.
  • Limited to PTDF-approved courses in partner institutions.
  • Scholarships only awarded for studies relevant to PTDF’s mandate in the oil and gas industry.
  • The proposed course must relate to previous studies.
  • Multiple applications lead to disqualification.
  • Candidates previously sponsored by the Fund for a specific category are ineligible to reapply.
  • Successful candidates in the first screening round will be required to attend interviews with transcripts, so all applicants should prepare accordingly.
