THE SPANISH NATIONAL CANCER RESEARCH CENTRE (CNIO) SUMMER LABORATORY TRAINING PROGRAMME 2024 FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS – MADRID, SPAIN (FULLY FUNDED)

Applications are now open for the 2024 Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) Summer Laboratory Training Programme.

The Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO), located in Madrid, Spain, provides research training opportunities for students of all nationalities interested in pursuing a research career in Biomedicine and Life Sciences during the summer. In 2023, up to four summer training positions will be awarded to university students from any country studying in Biomedical & Life Sciences or related fields.

Application Requirements:

  • Completion of at least 2/3 of the total credit points required for a Life Sciences or Biomedicine-related undergraduate degree in any country.
  • Maintenance of undergraduate student status throughout the entire summer program (June 24th to August 16th, 2024).
  • Excellent academic record with a Grade Point Average (GPA) above 0.75.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Availability from June 24th to August 16th (8 weeks) to attend the training program.

Benefits:

  • CNIO covers students’ travel expenses, including one return ticket from the student’s hometown to Madrid.
  • Subsidized breakfasts and lunches at the CNIO’s cafeteria during the summer training program.
  • Personal accident insurance coverage for students throughout their stay at CNIO.
  • Upon completion, CNIO issues a certificate indicating the student’s area of training.

Program Details:

  • The program runs from June 24th to August 16th (8 weeks), consisting of 300 working hours.
  • Participants commit to full-time engagement (37.5 hours per week) and must attend all scheduled activities.
  • Each student works under the supervision of a group/section/unit leader or a research group member.
  • Weekly seminars by CNIO faculty members and researchers are mandatory, and students present their research results at the program’s end.
  • Participation implies acceptance of CNIO’s internal regulations, group/unit rules, and the assigned Research Programme’s regulations.

Application Procedure:

  • Only shortlisted candidates will be asked to submit the following documents via email to summertraining@cnio.es:
    • Two letters of recommendation.
    • Copy of an official Transcript of Records, Academic Transcript, or Certification indicating the number of credits passed.
    • Copy of the National Identity Card or Passport.
    • Proof of valid health insurance for the entire summer stay, applicable to countries issuing the European Health Card (EHC), including Spanish nationals.
