SPECIAL PANEL ESTABLISHED FOR THE REHABILITATION OF DISPLACED COMMUNITIES IN SOUTHERN KADUNA

The governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, has established a panel to facilitate the resettlement of communities in Southern Kaduna that have been displaced due to various instances of insecurity in the state.

Governor Sani’s decision follows a recommendation from the State Security Council made on November 8, 2023, which highlighted the necessity of forming a committee to address the resettlement of communities affected by ethno-religious crises and banditry spanning the last two decades.

Deputy Governor Hadiza Balarabe, who was appointed to lead the 10-member committee, emphasized the significance of the task and the responsibility towards those displaced from their homes.

Dr. Balarabe stated, “Approaching this task with empathy, sensitivity, fairness, a sense of urgency, and a commitment to inclusivity is crucial. We must actively engage with the displaced communities, listen to their voices, understand their concerns, and involve them in decision-making processes that impact their lives. Through fostering a participatory approach, we can ensure that our efforts genuinely respond to the needs and aspirations of those we aim to assist.”

The committee comprises members such as the Secretary to the State Government, Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, and the chairpersons of Jema’a, Kaura, and Zangon Kataf local government areas, among others.
