2024 UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP FOR AFRICAN STUDENTS BY THE INDIAN COUNCIL FOR CULTURAL RELATIONS (ICCR)

The inaugural plenary of the India – Africa Forum Summit, convened in New Delhi in April 2008, witnessed the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India unveiling a significant initiative. The Government of India pledged to enhance academic opportunities for students from African countries, aiming to augment scholarships for their pursuit of undergraduate, postgraduate, and higher courses in India.

ICCR Undergraduate Scholarship Benefits:

  • Living allowance (Stipend) per month:
    • Undergraduate: 5,500
    • Postgraduate: 6,000
    • M.Phil / Ph.D.: 7,000
    • Post-doctoral Fellow: 7,500
  • House Rent Allowance per month:
    • In Grade 1 cities: 5,000
    • In other cities: 4,500
  • Contingent Grant per annum:
    • Undergraduate: 5,000
    • Postgraduate: 7,000
    • M/Phil / Ph.D. and M.Tech./ME: 12,500
    • Postdoctoral studies: 15,500
  • Tuition Fee/Other Compulsory Fee: As per actual (excluding refundable amount)
  • Thesis and Dissertation Expenses (Once in entire duration of course):
    • D Scholar: 10,000
    • For BBA/BCA/MBA/MCA/M.Tech and other courses requiring Project submission: 7,000
  • Medical Benefits: Scholars are expected to seek treatment at medical centers attached to universities/institutes or the nearest government hospital.

Requirements for ICCR Undergraduate Scholarship:

Selection Criteria:

  • Students applying for doctoral/post-doctoral courses should include a research synopsis.
  • Those studying performing arts are encouraged to enclose video/audio cassettes of recorded performances.
  • Adequate knowledge of English is mandatory.
  • ICCR will not consider applications sent directly by students or through local Embassies/High Commissions in New Delhi.
  • Priority given to students with no previous study experience in India.
  • Not applicable for courses in MBBS/MD, Dentistry, or Nursing.

Additional Guidelines:

  • Fulfillment of Indian universities/educational institutions’ eligibility criteria is essential.
  • Acceptance by the university does not guarantee a scholarship; it’s confirmed only after admission is endorsed by ICCR.
  • Proper visa is mandatory, and scholars must adhere to Government of India guidelines to avoid deportation.
  • Scholars should seek a pre-departure briefing from the Indian Diplomatic Mission, informing them of travel schedules for reception arrangements.
  • Scholars are advised to bring sufficient funds for incidental expenses upon arrival in India.
  • Original qualification documents must be presented for verification at the time of admission.

Application Documents:

  • Recent passport-size photograph (25kb) with a white background.
  • Copies of all academic qualifications, certificates, and mark sheets.
  • Certificate of physical fitness.
  • Recommendations/character certificates from the current school/university.
  • Certified copies of relevant passport pages.
  • Compulsory details: Passport Number, Age Proof (Birth Certificate/Government-issued Unique Identity indicating clear date of Birth).
