VISION 2030 LAUNCHED BY FIVE COWRIES’ ART EXHIBITION INTIATIVES
At a prestigious event held at the Abuja residence of the Ambassador to Spain, the Board of Trustees of the Five Cowries Arts Education Initiative (FCI) unveiled its Vision 2030.
This ambitious vision outlines Five Cowries’ commitment to expanding its efforts in utilizing arts and culture to enrich the educational experiences of children and young adults across Nigeria.
Building upon the successes of its existing programs in Kano, Kaduna, Ogun, Oyo, and Lagos States, the Vision 2030 aims to implement a six-year strategic plan. This plan will focus on scaling up inclusive learning pathways by integrating arts and culture into educational settings to enhance learning outcomes. Central to this initiative is the belief that community-driven creative learning fosters sustainable community resilience.
Since its inception, Five Cowries has implemented projects such as the Mu Shuka Iri (MSI) program in Kano, a community-based learning initiative involving caregivers and children aged 4 to early teens.
Under the 2030 Vision, the Children’s Programme (MSI) aims to expand to 19 states by 2030, beginning with Kaduna, Kano, Adamawa, and Sokoto in 2024.
FCI’s goal is to expand the network of hubs and schools participating in the program, enabling the empowerment of more community educators (referred to as ‘Aunties’) across the focus states.
Additionally, the Young People’s Programme, themed “My Story: My Heritage,” will equip young individuals with the soft skills necessary for success in the 21st-century workplace.
During the reception hosted at the residence of Ambassador Juan Sell of Spain, “he expressed his commitment to projects that utilize the arts to provide inclusive educational pathways that cater to individual learning, social, and cultural needs. Ambassador Sell conveyed his pleasure in hosting the launch of this initiative and extended best wishes to the Five Cowries team as they endeavor to expand their impact in the years ahead.”
Mr. Olumide Adeosun, the Chair of Five Cowries, commented on the vision, stating,“these programmes offer a route to education that improves school attendance and significantly improves numeracy and literacy outcomes whilst ensuring that no child in the community is left behind. The Board of Trustees are excited about the planned rollout of this innovative and impactful programme. We are counting on our donors, particularly through these lean times to deliver these programmes to communities that need them the most.”
Founder and CEO of Five Cowries, Polly Alakija, remarks, “These programmes have a proven positive impact on educational outcomes, such as improved numeracy and literacy, as well as transferable skills such as communication, problem-solving and creativity and are fun!” FCI’s goal, she continued, is to, “drive equitable empowerment in underserved communities”.
