FREE DELIVERY KITS INITIATED FOR PREGNANT HEALTH INSURANCE ENROLLEES BY FCTA
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) launched free delivery kits for pregnant women enrolled in the FCT health insurance scheme on Thursday.
During the program, organized by the FCT Health Insurance Scheme (FHIS) in collaboration with USAID, free delivery kits were distributed to vulnerable pregnant women across the six area councils.
Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, the Mandate Secretary of the FCT Health and Environment Secretariat (FCT-HES), encouraged residents to enroll in the FCT health insurance scheme, emphasizing that it provides healthcare services at minimal costs. She highlighted the significance of the delivery kits in reducing maternal mortality in the FCT.
Enrollment in FHIS allows pregnant women to access cesarean sections and delivery services. The delivery packs include gloves, drapes, and baby’s first clothes, among other essentials.
Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, the Minister of State for the FCT, stated that efforts are underway to establish a functional primary health care center in each ward across the six area councils.
Dr. Frances-Lois Adewumi, FCT State Director of the USAID Integrated Health Program (IHP), mentioned the four-year support provided by IHP to the FCT in areas such as health system strengthening and improving health outcomes for women and children.
