FG DISMISSES REPORTS OF REJECTION, CONFIRMS TINUBU’S PLANNED VISIT TO QATAR

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to embark on a visit to Qatar and the United Arab Emirates on March 2-3, as announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This follows recent reports suggesting that Qatari authorities declined Tinubu’s proposed visit to the country. According to a circulating memo, the Arabian country expressed its unpreparedness to host a suggested business parley with Nigeria.

The letter stated, “The Embassy of the State of Qatar in Abuja presents its compliments… Regarding the upcoming State visit of H.E. Bola Ahmed Tinubu… The Embassy has the honour to inform that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Qatar apologizes that it will not be able to hold a Business and Investment Forum as proposed by the Nigerian side.”

The reasons cited included the absence of a signed agreement on Investment Promotion and Protection between Qatar and Nigeria, the official missions of the Minister of Commerce and Industry outside the country during the visit period, and the hosting of a Web Summit by Qatar during the suggested period.

In response, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, issued a statement on Saturday night confirming President Tinubu’s visit to Qatar. The statement emphasized the excellent relations between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the State of Qatar.”
