The federal government has revealed its intentions to secure a €25 million grant for the construction of essential bridges nationwide. This announcement followed a meeting between the Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi, and a delegation of investors from the Netherlands, headed by the Nigerian Ambassador to the Netherlands, Amb. Oluremi Oliyide.
According to a statement from the Special Adviser on Media to the Minister, Ori Uchenna Orji, Umahi expressed the government’s positive stance on accessing international interventions from donor agencies and development partners to address infrastructural deficits hindering economic development in Nigeria.
The minister emphasized the need for increased partnerships and collaborations to support funding in the critical economic sector, aiming for robust and equitable economic growth. Umahi mentioned that, after thorough due diligence, he plans to present the proposal to President Bola Tinubu for approval.
Ambassador Oliyide shared that the grant offer came from Janson Bridging International, recognized as the largest modular bridge manufacturing and bridging company in continental Europe, as well as the world’s largest bridge rental company. He assured support in expediting the agreement implementation process on the company’s side once formalities were concluded.
Eric Okunde, the Business Consultant for Janson Bridging International, conveyed the readiness of the investors with the proposal, highlighting their technical preparedness to collaborate with the federal ministry in mapping, designing, and executing the bridge projects.
