ISLAMIC GROUPS SHOULD NOT BE USED FOR CONFLICT – SECRETARY OF NSCIA
The Secretary General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, emphasized that the establishment of Islamic organizations by Muslims is not intended for antagonism but serves as a platform to propagate and enhance the comprehension of the religion.
Speaking during the 100-year anniversary lecture of the Jama-at-ul Islamiyya of Nigeria with the theme “Commemorating the Past, Inspiring the Future: A Case Study of the Jama’at in the Last Century,” Oloyede explained that the creation of Islamic organizations was a response to the influence of Western civilization brought by missionaries. He clarified that the purpose was not for Muslims to engage in conflict with each other.
Oloyede highlighted that as early as 1914 and 1924, various Islamic organizations were established to counter what he described as imperialism by colonialists. He noted that Muslims globally recognized the potential threat posed by the imperial government and, as a result, conceived the idea of forming groups to promote the beauty of Islam and actively participate in the global movement.
In his role as the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Oloyede recalled that the founders of Jama-at-ul Islam were well-informed about contemporary global issues, despite their educational levels. He emphasized that their primary concern was to secure the future of Islam and Muslims, particularly the younger generation.
He urged understanding the language of the present generation of Muslim children, referred to as Gen Z, to address moral decadence in society.
