AVOID AGGRAVATING DIFFICULTIES FOR NIGERIANS, TINUBU CAUTIONS CIVIL SERVANTS

President Bola Tinubu has cautioned senior civil servants against exacerbating the challenging situation faced by Nigerians. This warning comes amidst public complaints about hardships triggered by the removal of fuel subsidy and monetary policy changes announced during the President’s inaugural speech on May 29, 2023.

In a meeting with the Head of Service, The Body of Permanent Secretaries, and some Directors-General of agencies at the State House on Thursday, Tinubu emphasized the urgency, diligence, and strong sense of duty required in handling policies affecting the welfare of the people and the economy.

Tinubu urged public servants to approach their roles with a generational understanding of their impact on shaping national history, emphasizing that their actions affect over 200 million people in the country and abroad.

Expressing dissatisfaction, Tinubu said, “Let us make our children’s dreams come true. Why are we slowing that down? It is not just shameful. It is unacceptable. We made a pledge to bring our people out of poverty. You should not increase their vulnerability. Help Nigerians to get out of these problems, do not compound the tough situation with unacceptable delays.”

He issued a stern warning against inefficiency and unnecessary bureaucracy causing delays in economic interventions and programs targeting vulnerable citizens, stressing that such practices would not be tolerated.

Tinubu directed the Head of Service to provide monthly briefings and submit key performance indicator (KPI) reports for review, and scheduled quarterly interactive meetings between the President and the Body of Permanent Secretaries.

The President mandated the Head of Service and the Body of Permanent Secretaries to consistently measure progress in actualizing the Renewed Hope Agenda of his administration. Tinubu emphasized the importance of changing the narrative about Nigeria and Africa, urging a focused effort to reshape the country’s trajectory positively.
