BREAKING NEWS: POLICE ANNOUNCES REVOCATION OF BAN ON TINTED GLASS PERMITS, UNVEILS INTRODUCTION OF QR CODES

The Nigerian Police have revealed a systematic approach towards lifting the ban on the issuance of tinted glass permits, as reported by Techeconomy.

The police indicated that the prohibition on tinted glass permits, implemented in June 2022 due to widespread concerns about their involvement in serious crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, illegal transportation of firearms, and human trafficking, is now under review. In a statement by Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force PRO, the police authorities announced their commitment to enhancing national security and curbing criminal activities linked to the misuse of tinted glass.

As part of the proposed plan to lift the ban, strict measures are being put in place to prevent abuse and ensure compliance with guidelines governing the issuance and use of tinted glass permits. Adejobi mentioned that ICT Analysts and Enforcement Officers across the nation will undergo comprehensive training on February 29, 2024. This training aims to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to regulate the registration process, guide registrants on the use of the portal, address public complaints, and enforce compliance effectively.

The training will focus on the intricacies of the new guidelines, emphasizing the importance of striking a delicate balance between public safety, individual freedoms, and national security. The proposed tinted glass permit will incorporate distinctive features such as a QR code linked to a central database for real-time verification, unique serial numbers correlated with vehicle and owner details, and a digital hologram ensuring authenticity and integrity, among other measures.

It is emphasized that the guidelines for issuing tinted permits and using tinted glass will strictly adhere to the provisions of the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act 1991 and other relevant laws. This strategic approach underscores the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to prioritize public safety while upholding individual rights and national security interests.

The Nigeria Police Force has assured the public of regular updates on the implementation of the reviewed process of tinted glass permit issuance, aiming to maintain transparency and accountability in its efforts to uphold internal security.
