GANDUJE CONVENES URGENT APC ASSEMBLY AMIDST CONTROVERSY SURROUNDING EDO GUBER PRIMARY DISPUTE
A sudden gathering of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is currently in progress in Abuja.
Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the national chairman of the party, is overseeing the private meeting at the APC national secretariat in Abuja.
Although the meeting’s agenda hasn’t been disclosed, sources indicate it is likely linked to the conflicting primaries held last Saturday.
The primaries, intended to select the party’s flagbearer for the September 21 state election, resulted in three different candidates.
Insiders suggest there is a strong possibility of the party organizing a fresh primary, but this information cannot be independently verified by Daily Trust.
This development occurs a day after Hon. Anamero Dekeri, one of the primary aspirants, visited the party’s national secretariat, demanding a certificate of return from Ganduje. Dekeri asserted that he secured the highest number of votes in Saturday’s exercise.
While Dennis Idahosa, a member of the House of Representatives, was declared the winner by Governor Hope Uzodimma, the chairman of the APC Primary Election Committee at Protea Hotel, Benin, Senator Monday Okpebholo was announced the winner at the primaries held at Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu’s residence. Subsequently, the spokesman of the local government returning officers, Ojo Babatunde, declared Anamero Sunday Dekeri, the representative of Etsako Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, as the winner of the contest held in another location in the city.
