PROJECT 774 LG CONNECTIVITY LAUNCHED BY FG TO ADDRESS DIGITAL DIVIDE

The federal government of Nigeria has initiated “Project 774 LG Connectivity,” a program announced by Minister Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, aimed at enhancing digital inclusion in the nation. Tijani stated, “As part of our plans to foster inclusive development and promote access to digital public infrastructure in government, I am happy to announce the launch of Project 774 LG Connectivity.”

This nationwide initiative seeks to establish internet connectivity for all 774 Local Government Secretariats, addressing the digital gap and extending online access to even the remotest areas of the country.

Project 774 LG Connectivity leverages existing infrastructure from the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NigComSat) and Galaxy Backbone, envisioning a future where local governments operate transparently and efficiently, supported by reliable and affordable internet connections.

By connecting these crucial offices, the project promotes inclusive development, ensuring equal participation in the digital economy, particularly in areas that were previously underserved.

The project is anticipated to generate a minimum of 300 direct jobs during its deployment, with the potential for additional indirect opportunities resulting from increased digital access. This multiplier effect has the capacity to stimulate economic growth, fostering the emergence of new local businesses and encouraging innovation nationwide.

Minister Tijani emphasized that “Project 774 LG Connectivity” aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for efficient public service and the strategic goals of the Ministry. He underscored the importance of strategic partnerships, deploying cutting-edge technology, and ensuring affordability as key factors contributing to the project’s success.
