KEMI BADENOCH EXPLORES INAUGURAL UK INDEPENDENT SCHOOL IN WEST AFRICA – ‘CHARTERHOUSE SCHOO
Tech Economy streche on the visit of Kemi Badenoch, the UK‘s Minister for Business and Trade, today, visited the first British independent school in West Africa, Charterhouse School – building on the UK government’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s desire to offer high quality education at home.
She toured the construction site of the new campus located in Lekki Ajah, Lagos with the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy for Girls Education, Helen Grant.
Recent discussions between the United Kingdom and Nigeria have led to the elimination of constraints on investments in Transnational Education (TNE) in Nigeria, valued at approximately £50 million. This development allows UK Higher Education institutions to establish TNE partnerships with their Nigerian counterparts.
“We anticipate that this significant investment in Nigeria’s education sector will set the stage for additional opportunities.”
The institution aims to provide a robust academic curriculum along with day and boarding facilities, emphasizing both intra and extracurricular activities, including sports, arts, and science.
Commencing in September 2024, the school will welcome primary and secondary school students from Nigeria and beyond.

While in Lagos, Minister Badenoch will engage with various key businesses, including Standard Chartered Bank, Avanti Satellite Communications, and IHS Towers, along with the British development finance institution, British International Investment (BII), to explore trade and investment opportunities for businesses on both sides.
