LEAPING HIGH: DOES OSIMHEN CRACK FOOTBALL’S TOP 10 JUMPERS?

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen  continues to impress with his aerial prowess for Napoli. His recent header against Udinese showcased his talent, but a late equalizer from another Nigerian, Isaac Success, dampened the celebration.

This isn’t the first time Osimhen has displayed his incredible jumping ability. Last month, he produced a phenomenal leap against Monza, a feat that would rival even NBA players. However, how does he stack up against the elite jumpers in football history?

Osimhen’s Leap and the Ranking Game:

Osimhen’s monumental 2.58-meter jump last season positions him at a respectable fifth place on the list of football’s highest jumps.

The Serie A record for highest jump belongs to AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori, who soared 2.61 meters to score against Juventus in May 2021.

But when it comes to aerial dominance, there’s one name that consistently rises above the rest: Cristiano Ronaldo. The former Manchester United star makes a whopping five appearances on the top 10 list of highest headed goals.

However, another African player holds the current crown for the highest jump ever recorded in a competitive match. Youssef En-Nesyri’s astonishing 2.78-meter leap for Sevilla against Portugal in December 2022 helped Morocco become the first African team to reach a FIFA World Cup semi-final.

The Top 10 Highest Jumps in Football:

  1. Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United) – vs. Manchester United (February 2013) – 2.93 meters
  2. Youssef En-Nesyri (Sevilla) – vs. Portugal (December 2022) – 2.78 meters
  3. Bevis Mugabi (Morecambe) – vs. Ross County (January 2021) – 2.62 meters
  4. Fikayo Tomori (AC Milan) – vs. Juventus (May 2021) – 2.61 meters
  5. Victor Osimhen (Napoli) – vs. Spezia (February 2023) – 2.58 meters
  6. Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus) – vs. Sampdoria (December 2019) – 2.56 meters
  7. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (AC Milan) – vs. Inter Milan (February 2020) – 2.53 meters (assist)
  8. Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus) – vs. Torino (May 2019) – 2.47 meters
  9. Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) – vs. Osasuna (November 2011) – 2.44 meters
  10. Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) – vs. Wales (July 2016) – 2.42 meters

While Osimhen undeniably possesses impressive jumping ability, he still faces stiff competition from legendary figures and rising stars. His dedication to aerial skills and the potential to further hone them could see him climb even higher in this exclusive ranking in the future.
