BECOME A UNODC NIGERIA YOUTH PEACE CHAMPION (2024)!

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is seeking passionate young Nigerians to join their 2024 Youth Peace Champions program. This initiative focuses on protecting children in the war-torn states of Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe.

The Challenge

Children in these regions have faced violence, recruitment by armed groups, and exploitation. The UNODC aims to address these issues by:

  • Strengthening child protection measures
  • Building stronger accountability mechanisms

The Program

The Youth Peace Champions program will select 16 young people (aged 18-29) to work with community leaders and NGOs. These champions will:

  • Promote peace through social and traditional media
  • Help resolve low-level conflicts
  • Identify emerging issues in their communities
  • Validate and spread key messages

Selection Process

  • Online Application: 10 champions will be chosen through an online application process.
  • Community Selection: An additional 6 champions will be selected directly from targeted communities.

Eligibility

  • Be between 18-29 years old
  • Reside in Damaturu, Potiskum, Fufore, or Yola (Adamawa & Yobe States)
  • Speak and understand Kanuri or Hausa (English fluency a plus)
  • Willing to commit one year (May 2024 – June 2025)

  • This is an unpaid volunteer program.
  • Youth Peace Champions are not considered UN staff.
