CHATHAM HOUSE MO IBRAHIM FOUNDATION ACADEMY FELLOWSHIP 2024/2025 FOR YOUNG EMERGING AFRICAN LEADERS (FULLY FUNDED TO LONDON, UK & £2,365 MONTHLY STIPEND)

The Chatham House Mo Ibrahim Foundation Academy Fellowship is a joint initiative between Chatham House and the Mo Ibrahim Foundation. It offers candidates at the early-to-mid-stage of their career the opportunity to spend ten months at Chatham House working on an individual research project of their choosing. Fellows take part in the core work of the Institute, developing their skills through the leadership programme, and furthering their professional network in the field of international affairs.

Citizenship

The fellowship is open to citizens of any African country.

Applications will also be accepted from applicants holding dual nationality which includes any African country.

Education:

  • Applicants must possess a completed BA degree or equivalent and demonstrate experience in conducting research.

Career:

  • Ideal candidates should be in the early-to-mid-stage of their careers and hail from academia, NGOs, businesses, government departments, civil society, or the media. All applicants should have a keen interest and knowledge of international affairs, their chosen research area, and align with Chatham House’s mission and research objectives.

Age restrictions:

  • There are no age restrictions for applicants.

Duration:

  • Academy Fellows will spend ten months at Chatham House between October 2024 and July 2025.

Location:

  • The fellow will work full-time at Chatham House in London, with hybrid working arrangements possible.

Remuneration and benefits:

  • Fellows will receive a monthly stipend of £2,365 covering living expenses in London.
  • The Academy covers reasonable relocation costs, UK Immigration Healthcare Surcharge, and research-related expenses.

Following the successful completion of their fellowship, alumni benefit from access to:

  • The Academy faculty and alumni.
  • Five-year Chatham House membership.

Application procedure:

  • Submit the applicant’s CV/résumé, names of two referees, and a research proposal based on the provided topic guidance.

Selection criteria:

  • Meet nationality criteria.
  • Demonstrate independent research experience and hold relevant qualifications or professional training.
  • Possess background experience and leadership potential.
  • Commitment to Chatham House’s mission, goals, and values.
  • Articulate how the fellowship will enable them to create positive impact aligned with Chatham House’s mission.
  • Motivation to undertake the fellowship and engage fully with Chatham House networks and opportunities.
  • Proficiency in spoken English.

Selection process:

  • Complete the application; shortlisted candidates will proceed to an interview via Zoom conducted by senior management at Chatham House and relevant program representatives. Selected fellows will be notified via email
