AFRICAN UNION (AU) DIGITAL AND INNOVATION FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM (COHORT 2) FOR AFRICAN TECH INNOVATORS (FULLY FUNDED TO ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA)

Applications are now open for the 2024 African Union (AU) Digital and Innovation Fellowship Program Cohort 2.
The African Union Digital and Innovation Fellowship Program is a robust 12-month program which aims to identify and deploy highly competent tech innovators from the African continent to units and organs within the African Union headquarters as ‘resident fellows’ to understand the system within those units, identify data management challenges within the systems and solve the challenges identified by co-creating and building innovative tailor-made products and processes that improve data management processes and the overall work of the AU, while ensuring the sustainability of the developed products and processes post the fellowship timeline, by strengthening the internal capacity of the AU staff within those units.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Applicants must be based in Africa and nationals of African Union member states.
  • Applicants must be under the age of 34 at the time of application.
  • Applicants must hold a tertiary education degree or its equivalent.
  • Candidates should demonstrate the ability to gather and analyze complex information to identify key issues and propose solutions.
  • Applicants must possess experience and technical expertise in designing innovative technology products or solutions.
  • Candidates must be available to travel for an induction workshop and willing to dedicate 12 months to the fellowship, including relocating to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
  • Proficiency in more than one African Union official language (Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swahili) is encouraged.

All-expense paid trips:

  • Travel expenses for deployment to Addis Ababa, events, learning tours, and offboarding will be fully covered by the fellowship.

Capacity building training:

  • Includes an induction workshop, virtual pre-deployment workshop, and needs-based capacity building training tailored to address fellows’ specific needs.

  • fellows will visit top tech organizations experienced in supporting tech innovators to develop solutions for government and organizational challenges.

Application and selection:

  • The African Union Digital and Innovation Fellowship application is open to all eligible candidates, and selection is based entirely on merit.
