“1,370 MEDICINE OUTLETS SEALED BY NAFDAC AND PCN IN KANO”

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), in collaboration with the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN), has shut down 1,370 wholesale medicine outlets in Kano due to their non-compliance with the directive to relocate to the Coordinated Wholesale Centre (CWC).

These outlets were operating within the open drug markets of Sabon Gari, Malam Kato, and Mai Karami in Kano.

Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the Director General of NAFDAC, revealed this information during a press briefing in Abuja. She clarified that the establishment of CWCs aimed to address the disorderly drug distribution system in Nigeria, as the unregulated movement of medicines in the supply chain contributes to the prevalence of substandard and falsified drugs.

Adeyeye noted that the medicine dealers in Kano have consistently resisted efforts by regulatory authorities to relocate their pharmaceutical businesses from open drug markets in Mai Karami Plaza, Niger Street, Malam Kato, and Sabon Gari areas of Kano to the CWCs in Dangwauro area of the state.
